ASCRS Phaco Fundamentals Classroom - Welcome
David F. Chang
Welcome to the Phaco Fundamentals Classroom (PFC) – the ASCRS open source online classroom for phaco training and education.
Our interactive classroom is a collection of carefully selected online resources supporting residents and surgeons worldwide who are seeking to improve their phaco skills. This classroom requires only online registration without any access fees. Our site features several leading phaco courses that have been video captured and archived – including the Harvard and Northwestern resident phaco courses. Soon to be added will be the UCSF resident COAST course, the UCLA resident phaco course, and the ASCRS Cataract Clinical Committee Phaco Fundamentals Course. PFC also houses videos, PowerPoint lectures, articles and “e-chapters” that have been selected by our editorial board as being among the best at teaching phaco. This editorial oversight distinguishes PFC from unfiltered sites such as You Tube. Besides covering basic surgical technique, there is instruction on phacodynamics and settings, and avoiding/managing complications. The classroom will be regularly expanded and updated, and we invite submissions of teaching videos, articles and lectures from cataract faculty worldwide.
A special editorial board has been formed to develop and update this online classroom. Co-chaired by Gary Foster and myself, the editorial board includes Surendra Basti, Sherleen Chen, Ken Cohen, Bonnie Henderson, Tom Oetting, Lisa Park, Roberto Pineda, Saras Ramanathan, and Evan “Jake” Waxman. All are widely recognized for their interest, experience, and expertise in resident phaco training.
We hope you find this classroom to be a valuable learning portal and that you will tell others about this unique and free educational resource sponsored by ASCRS, a global leader in cataract surgical education.
